Games & open-source credits

Sidequest is an independent community pilot. We host open-source builds and keep their authors’ notices. These are not official versions and the original authors do not endorse this site.

The website uses Astro (MIT). Community game adapters add score reporting and remove third-party tracking. Game source archives include those changes.

Browser games can be licensed separately from their audio and art. The three community builds have no background music. Partner games have their own audio. For commercial broadcasts, review each game’s included notices and the rules of your streaming platform; we do not promise immunity from automated copyright claims.

Partner games & advertising

Kingdom Defender - Tower Defense, Chicken Merge, Moto X3M, Soccer Random and Geometry Arrow 2 are supplied through the Playgama partner catalog. These games are hosted by the provider; they are not open-source downloads. The three community builds below retain their separate licenses.

Partner games may show advertising. We only load them after you choose Play; no partner game iframe is loaded while browsing the homepage. Our partner links attribute eligible activity to Sidequest. Actual revenue is determined by the provider. We do not guarantee revenue, copyright clearance for commercial livestream music, or automatic scores from partner games.

Privacy

Ordinary games and temporary rooms need no account. Creator membership uses a username, a securely hashed password, a hashed recovery code, a trial timestamp and essential sign-in cookies. We do not collect card numbers; subscription payments use Stripe. We store Stripe customer/subscription identifiers and confirmed entitlement dates. Your nickname and submitted score are visible to anyone with your challenge link. Do not enter personal information as a nickname.

Challenge records and aggregate daily room-creation, join, round-start, play-button, partner-load, favorite-button and share-button counts are stored on our server. If you enable optional analytics in the footer, a random browser identifier records first-party visit, game-page, launch, frame-load, loading-timeout, visible-page duration and next-game events, plus coarse source categories. We store a hash of that identifier, not your full referring URL, email or IP address. Data is kept for up to 30 days. These metrics are not advertising impressions or verified gameplay. Use Analytics choices to turn it off and erase its stored server records. No optional analytics are sent before you allow them. Our pages use no third-party analytics. Playgama partner games are optional third-party content, loaded only when you choose Play on their game page; those games may use cookies and advertising technologies under Playgama’s privacy policy. Game thumbnails are served from our server. Server-side rate limits temporarily use network addresses in memory; addresses are not written to the application database. Hosting providers may retain operational logs under their own policies.

Game progress, favorites, recent games, challenge participation tokens and host controls are stored locally in your browser. You can clear recent games on the homepage and remove favorites individually. Partner games may store their own data; use their privacy controls to manage it. Clear browser storage to remove local data; this also removes access to host controls. The daily 2048 board accepts a nickname and stores the current server-calculated board and scores for that day. A browser token lets you resume the board. Daily public rankings show the best score per nickname; names are not verified identities. Challenge rooms stop accepting activity after 24 hours. Records are automatically removed after 30 days. Keep a host control token private; it grants permission to start and create the next round of the corresponding challenge. CSV exports include public nicknames and scores, never host or player tokens.

QR code credits

Room invite QR codes are generated locally in your browser using QRCode for JavaScript by Kazuhiko Arase (MIT), adapted from qrcode-terminal. No invite is sent to an external QR service. Source and copyright notices are retained in our QR script.

Creator accounts & membership

Register once for a 72-hour creator trial starting at server-recorded account creation. No card is required for the trial. Login, recovery or changing devices does not restart it. Trial eligibility is per account; account creation is rate-limited, but we do not claim perfect multi-account detection.

After the trial, an active subscription is required to create or edit fixed studios, run scheduled creator events, customize OBS branding or use moderation controls. Ordinary solo games, daily 2048 and temporary rooms remain free. Creator accounts must be held by people aged 18 or older.

Membership costs $4.99 USD per month, recurring until cancelled. We do not automatically charge at the end of the free trial. After it ends, choose Subscribe and complete Stripe Checkout. The total is shown before you confirm payment. Access is activated only after a verified successful payment event; returning from Checkout alone does not activate access.

Cancel renewal through the creator dashboard or Stripe billing portal. Access continues for the already-paid period when cancellation is scheduled for period end. Existing records remain readable after expiry. Refund or billing questions can be submitted through our private feedback channel; cancelling renewal does not itself issue a refund. Applicable mandatory consumer rights still apply.

Keep your username, password, recovery code and host access private. Recovery codes are shown once and stored only as hashes. This release does not use email verification or email password reset. If both password and recovery code are lost, we cannot automatically restore access. You can request account data export or deletion through the logged-in feedback channel; deleting browser storage alone does not delete an account or cancel a Stripe subscription.

Studios can have up to three fixed addresses per owner, ten scheduled rounds per event, and five registered moderators per studio. Moderator accounts must log in; their studio powers depend on the studio owner’s active membership. Results are grouped by nickname, which is not verified identity. Rank points combine completed rounds; browser-reported room scores can still be manipulated. No entry fees, cash prizes or gambling.

Creator round history is retained for up to 90 days; account and studio settings remain until account closure or a deletion request is processed. Subscription records may be retained for billing and legal obligations. A local logo preview is resized in your browser before upload. Studio names, logos and aggregate boards are public to people with the link. Feedback, recovery hashes and sign-in sessions are not public. Feedback tickets are private; do not submit sensitive financial information.

Terms of the pilot

Ordinary games, temporary challenges and daily 2048 are free. Optional creator membership has a 3-day registration trial, then costs $4.99 USD/month when you choose to subscribe. It does not buy game scores, prizes or partner ad removal. There are no Sidequest game deposits, prizes, cash rewards or withdrawals. Creator subscription charges are for website tools only. The five current partner games are listed without in-app purchases in the partner catalog; partner advertising may appear. Room scores come from users’ browsers, pass basic plausibility checks and can still be manipulated; daily puzzle scores are calculated on the server but do not prove human play; do not use them for prizes or paid competitions.

No harassment, impersonation, automated flooding or offensive nicknames. Use rooms with communities you trust; user-generated names may appear on a live board. Host controls remain in the creating browser, and a shared link does not confer host access.

Five optional games are connected through our Playgama partner links. Sidequest may receive a share of eligible advertising revenue. Do not click ads to support the site or artificially generate game sessions. The service is provided as a pilot without an uptime guarantee. Intended for adult hosts and their appropriately supervised communities, not a child-directed service.
